Fan Find of the Day: Food and Drink Near The Dome

Our Fan Find today is for the Lions at Vikings game this Sunday. The Vikings may not be looking so good, but the Lions sure are and we suspect there may be one or two Detroit fans in town this weekend. Need some tips if you’re heading to Mall of America Field at H.H.H. Metrodome? (Does anyone actually call it that?) Today we’re focusing on a couple great restaurants in The Dome’s Downtown Minneapolis neighborhood.

It’ll be hard to miss Hubert’s Sports Bar since it’s right across the street on Chicago Ave, but it will be extremely crowded before and after a game and they don’t have any game day specials or do their normal Happy Hour when the Vikings are at home. It is super convenient, however, and they have a huge menu of pretty decent bar food. Just get there super early. There ARE a couple of places we like a little bit better however.

First up: Town Hall Brewery at 1430 Washington Ave South. They do a free shuttle to the game, and while it’s only a half mile walk to the stadium, if it’s rainy or cold out, this is a great option. Park at any of the numerous ramps or lots nearby, have a pint or two, and hop on the shuttle at the corner  just like that. They have fantastic original brews: try the Masala Mama IPA, Black H2O Oatmeal Stout, or whatever seasonal beers they have on tap.

The food at Town Hall Brewery also gets pretty good reviews. Their menu includes items such as Burgers, Fish Tacos, Flat Iron Steak, Pulled Pork, and plenty of yummy appetizers. On game days they also do a relatively inexpensive Brunch Buffet which includes Bloody Marys or Mimosas so if you’re stopping in pre-game, that’s definitely recommended.

Next up: Maxwell’s American Pub at 1201 Washington Ave South. It’s a friendly neighborhood bar with good local draft beers as well as imports. They have a late night happy hour from 10pm-Midnight which includes half price appetizers. Many bars in the Metrodome area get spotty reviews for service, but the staff here is always praised, so if you’re looking to skip some possible attitude and grumpiness, Maxwell’s is a pretty safe bet.
