The Stadium:
Hotty Toddy, Gosh almighty
Who the hell are we, Hey!
Flim Flam, Bim Bam
OLE MISS BY DAMN!”
And By Damnit they are! This little poem of pride, mysteriously titled “Hoddy Toddy,” echoes forth from fans housed together on the southeast side of the Ole Miss campus. It is here, that the glamorous gentry of college football, congregates on that sacred Saturday to urge their Rebels to victory. Judge not the mere 62,000 that Vaught-Hemingway can hold, because what they lack in seating they make up for in style. In 2008, Ole Miss installed a $6 million dollar Daktronics video board in the north Endzone of Vaught-Hemingway, the 8th largest scoreboard in college football. The following year—while pursuing the crown for “The Smallest Stadium With The Most Elegant Ancillary Stadium Features”—Ole Miss became the first SEC school to install FieldTurf, that synthetic grass that just looks so damn pretty on TV.
Pre/Post Game:
If you’re the type that loves pregame tailgating festivities, you must head to “The Grove," the legendary tailgating area at the center of campus. Media outlets, sports fans and hedonists alike are in full agreement that “The Grove”— described as "the Holy Grail of tailgating sites"—is one of the premier spots in America to make your heart jolly before a game. A tailgating aristocracy, The Grove is a serene expanse lined with tents, and packed with southern beauty. As for the attire: peerless suits and exquisite dresses. Food? Southern staples, of course, with BBQ thrusting itself to the forefront. To visit Oxford and not spend the majority of your pre-game time in The Grove is to do an injustice to yourself—and to every football adventurer cursed to a life apart from this legendary repository of awesomeness.
And what about post-game? The main place to go is “The Square” (big circle area lined with restaurants and bars), which is within walking distance. In a lot of ways, Oxford turns into a ghost town on Sundays as many of the shops and restaurants close their doors. There a few that do stay open, like Big Bad Breakfast and Soulshine Pizza Company, and you'll find those and several other spots on our "Before & After the Game" map with detailed info.
