Reliant is the NFL's first retractable stadium, and has a contemporary and practical layout. Able to open or close in just 10 minutes, it has 2 large panels that split at the 50-yard line. At almost 70,000 seating capacity, the field level section has been pulled as close to the football field as possible, allowing for some spectacular views. The concourses were also recently widened and they have an open view to the field.
Food and Drink:
One thing we absolutely love: variety. And Reliant Stadum has it. Other than standard fare, you have plenty of local foods to choose from, from Rio Grande Grill stands (multiple locations) to Cactus Cantina for some Mexican food (The Bull Burrito sold there could practically feed an entire family). There's also a couple of Texas Cheese Steak Company stands on the the Field and Upper Levels. And if you're in the mood for some BBQ - you won't have trouble finding it here.
For something healthier, Sushi Salad stands are at Sections 108 and 128.
As for beer, stop by Kirby Ice House near Section 107 for a different assortment, however be prepared to pay the price for anything other than Miller or Bud. You can get our Texas fave Shiner Bock or imports like Dos Equis.
For some pre-game partying, there's The Cuervo Cantina in the South Concourse on the Field Level - if you have time before kickoff stop on by and enjoy a Margarita or anything else at the full bar. You just can't take your drinks outside the Cantina.
great tailgate scene, rowdy crowds, expensive concessions but a kickass stadium overall
The Stadium and Neighborhood:
Open since 2002, Reliant Stadium is part of Reliant Park - a collection of multipurpose venues that house a variety of events such as rodeos, soccer, and concerts. The future of Reliant Astrodome next door (once home to the Astros and Oilers) is currently in limbo with many different options up in the air. Reliant Park is an enormous and versatile complex, about 8 miles south of downtown Houston.
While it may not be in the hub of the city, the MetroRAIL station just outside the stadium makes it a quick and convenient location. If you want to grab a drink or food before or after a game, we have a couple of suggestions found on our exterior map, so be sure to check it out.
Driving and Parking:
Reliant Park is located within the Inner Loop of the southern portion of Interstate Loop 610 beween Kirby and Fannin Streets, so regardless of what direction you're coming from, getting there shouldn't be too difficult
All Miller Lite Parking Lots at Reliant Park open 4 hours prior to kickoff and all parking is pre-sold. There is NO cash parking at this stadium (strange, yes) but tailgating is HUGE in this city, so be prepared. If you find yourself without a parking pass on the day of a game, not to worry - the MetroRail is always there.
How much is it to park in one of the lots at Reliant Stadium? Well, the official information varies but you can find tickets at reduced prices sold at our affiliate VividSeats. Click HERE for the Texans' page where finding parking passes is super easy. The cheapest we found on TicketMaster recently was $28, but we found much better prices on Vivid Seats.
The MetroRail is easy, convenient, and only $1.25 each way. Public transportation is not terribly popular in Houston, but it does come in handy in situations like these. There's a park and ride metrorail station at 1604 West Belfort at Fannin just south of the stadium, but there are also numerous lots and garages along the rail routes. For more info visit the Metro's website HERE.
